Join Danielle Lancaster on this retreat to Carisbrooke Station with Charles and Penny Phillott in the heart of dinosaur country.

Tour highlights will include

  • 3 unforgettable nights at Carisbrooke Station, a 50,000 acre cattle station
  • Visit the opal mine, Aboriginal art sites and see the abundant wildlife
  • Explore the only recorded dinosaur stampede in the world at Lark Quarry plus visit the new Australian Age of Dinosaurs
  • 1 night Longreach at the end of the tour
  • Sunset dinner cruise on the Thomson River

We will have the opportunity to do star trails, landscape and flora and fauna photography in an amazing part of Queensland - the Mesas here can only be seen in one other place in the world and that is South America plus see station life close up as welcomed into the lives of Penny and Charles.

During the retreat Danielle will hold tutorials, do field trips and be available for one-on-one advice and assistance.

Itinerary:

Day One: Thursday (L, D)          
Depart Longreach and travel to the Australian Age of Dinosaurs, set on the majestic mesas of Winton, known as the ‘jump up’ for a tour of the collection room and laboratory. Travel out to Carisbrooke Station and meet your hosts for the next three nights, Charles and Penny Phillott, at their 50 000 acre cattle station. Overnight Carisbrooke Station*, Winton
*Please note Carisbrooke Station accommodation is clean, comfortable with share facilities and exceptional hospitality.

Day Two: Friday (B, L, D)
Soak up the outback scenery and culture with a station tour including the Opal Mine, Aboriginal Art Sites, and panoramic scenic drives of Carisbrooke Station. Enjoy lunch at the homestead, followed by some leisure time to reflect on the morning adventures.  In the late afternoon, top off the day with spectacular sunset views of the Carisbrooke Station surrounds. Day Three: Saturday (B, L, D)
This morning explore the Lark Quarry Dinosaur Trackways. Let us take you on a journey into the cretaceous period, 95 million years ago, a time when dinosaurs ruled. See their tracks, the only recorded dinosaur stampede in the world - over 3,030 footprints. Enjoy a mid-afternoon Wildlife Water Run Sunset Drive including the incredible key line irrigation system and outstanding views in the heart of the Williams Valley at sunset. Overnight Carisbrooke Station, Winton   

Day Four: Sunday (B, L, D)
This morning depart Carisbrooke for The Waltzing Matilda Centre for lunch, before travelling onto Longreach. Enjoy a sunset dinner cruise on the Thomson River as a finale to your stay in Outback Queensland. Overnight Longreach

Day Five: Monday (B)
Depart on the Spirit of the Outback train or via QantasLink or stay and experience the outback and Longreach further.

Getting there
We will pick you up from the train or plane and also transport you (included in tour cost) from Longreach to Carisbrooke Station and return.

Most other domestic and international carriers fly into Brisbane.

Daypack, long trousers, shorts, shirts, hat, closed in walking shoes, sunglasses, raincoat, umbrella, toiletries, towel, sunscreen, mosquito repellent, money for personal spending and meals not included.
