About Cambodia
Cambodia is located in the heart mainland of Southeast Asia. Siem Reap, in the north west where the tour will be based, is a city with a mysterious past, rich in cultural heritages and is the home of the world's renowned ancient temple city.

We will visit many of the temples including the legendary Angkor (the magnificent Empire erected by Kings between the 9th and 13th centuries) that continues to draw admiration from Khmer's and foreigners alike.

The population of Cambodia today is about 10 million. About 90-95 percent of the people are Khmer ethnic. The remaining 5-10 percent include Chinese-Khmers, Khmer Islam or Chams, ethnic hill-tribe people, known as the Khmer Loeu, and Vietnamese. About 10 percent of the population lives in Phnom Penh, the capital, making Cambodia largely a country of rural dwellers, farmers and artisans. They are proud, beautiful people.

Travel through rural villages and open fields to Tonle Sap Lake, the largest fresh water body in South East Asia, and its floating villages of stilted houses and through the flooded forest of Komplong Phhluk.

The airport sits 6km from town, close to the temples, occasionally affording spectacular views of Angkor Wat during landings and take offs. Outside the terminal is a ticket booth for registered taxis into town. Independent taxis and motorcycles wait just outside the airport. Geting there
There are many options for travel to Siem Reap (our tour starting point).

Air Asia http://www.airasia.com.au currently have airfares at a very realsonable price. They are a cut price airline that specialises in International travel through Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. There main departure port in Queensland, Australia is Coolangatta airport on the Gold Coast. As an example departing Coolangatta 29th June arriving Kuala Lumpur 29th June (overnight K.L), departing Kulala Lumpur 30th June arriving Siem Reap 30th June, then departing Siem Reap arriving Kulala Lumpur and continuing on Kuala Lumpur to Coolangatta on 9th July comes to a total cost of approximately $660! It is a discount airline so all food and beverages must be paid for on board, however we have flown with them many times and find them to be generally reliable, clean and efficient.

Alternatively Malaysian Airlines have fares for the same dates as above (departing Brisbane 29th June returning 9th July) that start at $1,264.00. They are a world class airline that offers full inflight service. Again, we have travelled Malaysian and found their level of care and service to be excellent.  http://www.malaysiaairlines.com/au/en/home.aspx

The above two airlines fly into different airports in KL. Please allow plenty of time for connecting flights as KL has two international airports but a good transport system in between. We usually overnight in KL in case or airport delays somewhere along the way.

Accommodation
Accommodation in Siem Reap varies from cheap and cheerful to pricier with opulence.
We are staying at the Royal Crown Hotel and have blocked out a number of rooms should you care to stay there. The rooms are $30US per night for a single or twin room and this includes breakfast, free wi-fi, one bag of laundry per day per room and it has a great swimming pool. www.royalcrownhotel.com.kh
If you are interested in staying with us and would like a room held please drop us an email.

http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotels-g297390-Siem_Reap-Hotels.html has some excellent reviews on hotels in Siem Reap and is worth a look if you are trying to decide on appropriate accommodation.

You should consider bringing the following photographic items:
Camera, tripod, lockable cable release or remote; polariser filter; other filters if you have them; torch; plenty of cards; 2 batteries and charger; computer or hard drive for backups; a universal power adaptor and water bottle.

You should consider bringing the following personal items:
Daypack; long trousers; shorts; shirts; hat; closed in walking shoes; sunglasses; rain coat; umbrella; toiletries; swim wear; towel; sunscreen; mosquito repellent; money for personal spending and meals.

What Happens If?

I don't have a tripod?
It is not necessary and Danielle rarely uses one in Cambodia so you will get by without it.

It rains?
It will! We are visiting during the rainy season, however storms during this time, while usually tropical, are finished fast and it gives us a chance for dramatic skies.

We can't tell Mother Nature what to do and we will have to work with her. Danielle has visited Cambodia during the rainy season now many times and it is her favourite time due to the dramatic skies.

I forget something?
We'll be sending out reminders and the full list again to those that register hoping you don't forget anything. Photographic supplies are limited in Siem Reap.

I can't come to this one - will there be another?
Yes if we get enough interest we'll run another!
